Health, Safety & The CDM Regulations

In attempt to reduce the large numbers of serious and fatal accidents that occur in the UK every year the Health and Safety Executive introduced the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM) in 2007. Such regulations specifically aim at improving the overall management and coordination of health, safety and welfare throughout all of the stages of a construction project.

The CDM regulations place specific duties on all those who can contribute to the health and safety of a construction project. Specific examples include responsibilities placed on the client, designers, contractors, fabricators, erectors and so on.

Fleming Homes’ responsibility mainly lies within the role of the designer and fabricator. We follow procedure directly relating to the CDM 2007 regulations to ensure health, safety and welfare is appropriately managed throughout the various phases of an individual project.

For detailed information on the CDM regulations and the specific responsibilities of each party involved see the Approved Code of Practice document Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 or download: http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg411.pdf for an overview of this document.
