The building regulations relating to Part L - Conservation of Fuel and Power is set to be revised on the 1st of October 2010. As has been discussed in March's 'article of interest' titled Cracking the Sustainable Code, this revision is the most current of the forth coming revisions scheduled up until 2016. In 2016 all new homes built in the UK are to be 'carbon neutral'. In October 2010 national building standards take their first big step towards obtaining this exemplary standard.
This is great news for our planet. Residential buildings in the UK account for 15% of the total carbon emissions so any incentive created to reduce this percentage can only be a good thing. However, it is not all good news for the new home builder. The cost of building a new home is set to rise in relation to the higher levels of specification required to meet the targets set.
In response to this, we have created a new 3 tier level of specification which has been specifically developed to not only exceed the new regulations, but also address some of the implications relating to the cost of a new build so you, the new home builder, get maximum value for money.
The tiers are Premier, Premier Plus and Superior. They have been created to provide you with insulating options so you can decide what is best for your individual project.
