ADDITIONAL WAYS WORTH CONSIDERING TO MAKE YOUR HOME MORE ECO-FRIENDLY

  • 1. Designing the house to maximise on natural solar gain. Where ever practicable the house should be built to face South/South-South West in order to maximise the solar gain.
  • 2. Design the house to ensure that windows to the north are kept to the minimum. And try and avoid large windows unless there are good reasons such as good views.
  • 3. Design the house so that it has good day lighting so as to reduce energy to light the home.
  • 4. Alternative energy sources are worth considering to reduce fossil fuel energy requirements. Examples are:-
            Ground source heat pumps.
            Solar Panels.
            Wind Turbines in windy areas.
  • 5. Increase the insulation to the highest practicable level in the walls and the roof; and certainly in excess of the statutory requirements.
  • 6. Landscaping to provide protection from the prevailing wind.
  • 7. Good construction practice on Site.
  • 8. High efficiency condensing boiler.
  • 9. House heat recovery systems.
